A Brake Disc
A brake rotor is a vital part of a vehicle’s disc braking system. Here’s an explanation of its role and how it works:
Function and Composition
Role : The brake rotor is a circular metal component attached to the vehicle’s wheel. Its primary role is to provide a surface on which the brake pads can apply force to slow or stop the rotation of the wheel, and therefore the vehicle.
Material : Brake rotors are typically made of cast iron, steel, or composite materials. Cast iron is common due to its ability to dissipate heat efficiently, while more advanced materials, such as carbon-ceramic composites, are used in performance cars for their lightweight design and resistance to extremely high temperatures.
How it works
When braking, when the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic fluid pushes the brake pads against both sides of the brake disc, generating friction that slows the rotation of the disc and, consequently, the wheel, reducing the vehicle’s speed. This process produces significant heat, which the brake disc is designed to dissipate efficiently to prevent overheating and maintain optimum braking performance.
A Tire Sensor (TPMS)
The tire pressure sensor, often referred to as TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), is an electronic device designed to monitor the air pressure inside a vehicle’s tires in real time.
How is works
The tire pressure sensor continuously monitors the air pressure inside the tires and sends alerts to the driver via the dashboard in the event of a drop or abnormality.
Importance
Maintaining proper pressure with the sensor improves vehicle safety, performance, and fuel efficiency, while reducing the risk of premature wear and flat tires.
